THE FINISH LINE

You can't teach an old dog new tricks-or so I thought. with the help of Kevin(thank you ever so much!!), I was able to navigate my way through AND learn some new things along the way.. Just using the words Technorati and Flickr mashups in front of my husband, gave me a real lift! so onward and upward-to where ever.

Project Gutenburg

This is a great site. I just read a children's book on inventors. It is so nice to see something FREE. I also liked the idea that unknown authors can be given a chance to share what they think is important to everyone else.

NPR Podcast

I just found Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me . This is one of my husband's favorite NPR programs. I added it to my blogline just for him(It took some time remembering about RRS feeds). Hope he appreciates it!

WNM discussion

My three questions for Dan Pink?
1. What led you on your search to tackle this concept?
2.How do your feel religion or the lack thereof fits abundance? Just what are pattern recognizers?
3. When I offer children's programs should I now be focusing on imagination, joyfulness, and social dexterity and not so much on early literacy?

BRIEF SYNOPSIS-This book reminds me of The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman. It reminds us that the world is constantly is flux and we also need to be in a state of change. In this instance, the book focuses on the work world. The demand for left brained , information workers will be replaced by a demand for right brained conceptual workers.

THOUGHTS: I loved some of the facts and statistics on the text. Is the route to holistic medicine a part of the idea? Will my son in pharmacy school need some classes on this type of medicine? Now I can understand why math teachers are being imported from the Philippine's to work in the inner city. I am a baby boomer(birthday today!) and I truly agree that more of my life to behind me. And IF I had grandchildren, I would be spending much more time with them and much less time on career and the rush that goes with it!
PS If and when I get time, I would like to finish the book!

I Discover YouTube

Had my first YouTube experience today. It's a goofy world out there. However I did see something of interest to me. One of my second graders in now a senior in high school. She had a video on why the food drive was so important to her. It's wonderful to see you students turn out well!

Biblio.com

I found this site one of the more interesting of the 23 things. For one thing, I could really understand it's purpose and it was easy to use. I started with the eventful site. I plugged in where we will spend Thanksgiving, and events for the entire area came up. VERY USEFUL!
I think library patrons might find Biblio.com for rare, used and out-of-print books useful. Customers are alwasy coming up and asking for books they read as a child and many are no longer in the library.

Online Productivity

I really don't think I need this tool. I use Word 2003 that's on my computer, and it seems to work fine. If the Internet is down, I can still get to Worjd. Maybe if there were a bunch of us using the same document I could actually find a use for this.
